    . Determine which is the inlet and which is the outlet heater hose.

    . Disconnect the hoses. It may be easier to trace the hoses from the heater core to, say, the water pump and intake manifold and disconnect them there.

    . Install a garden hose repair connector to the outlet hose, since you want to reverse flush the heater core.

    . Attach a garden hose to the outlet hose connector, gently turn on the water, and capture the coolant and scale in a jug that comes out of the inlet hose. Flush until it runs clear.

    . Reattach the heater hoses, refill the radiator with coolant, start the engine, warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, turn on the heater to max heat, and verify that you have adequate heat.
