Just bought a new HP Pavilion p7-1007c 64 bit Desktop, with Win7 Home Premium.

Has an AMD Phenom II 521 processor, and 6GB of RAM. (1TB HDD)

I was planning to go to the max of 16GB of RAM.

Is that more than is needed? I've always heard, the more RAM the better.

I'm not a gamer, but do watch some streaming video.

If you are using the 32 bit verision of Windows you can't see more than 3.6 gig of that ram, no matter how much is in it.

If you are a 64 bit version you can throw as much as you can afford at it.



However unless you are running some VERY memory intensive programs you may never even use that much, but its not all that expensive if you want to give it a shot anyway.

I run Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit have 8 gig of ram with a Quad core CPU and hammer the machine and rarely get anywhere near 6 much less 8 being used.

TBH, 6Gb will be more than ample for now.
By the time you need to add more RAM the unit prices will be stupidly LOW..

I run 8Gb and so far have not run into any issues and I'm what would be classed as a power user.

That's great. Thanks. I have a couple of 4gig sticks, so I might as well bump it up from 6 to 8GB. But you just saved me the trouble and expense of going all out to 16. I had no idea 8 would be enough.
