Hi I have a 1 year old male gsd and since we have had him he is very finnicy with his food he is on dry kibble and has 3 cups a day which most of the time he won't eat it all I feel he is very skinny and would like to put some weight on him. I try to give bones with lots of fat on but he is just not interested.he has been wormed.

If he is otherwise in good health (been checked by a vet) I would say it is completely normal.

Many male dogs will go through a skinny stage and be picky with their food from around 12-18 months of age. I have just been through it with one of my own, he looked like an RSPCA case for several months he was so thin. I even went through a period of hand feeding him everything and he still turned his nose up.

I started feeding him raw meat and it really helped with getting the weight on. The meat I feed is 2/3 beef to 1/3 lamb flap. In addition to that he gets dry food for breakfast just to keep the diet balanced.
