I am installing a ceiling fan in my greenhouse with a light.
I am installing a ceiling fan in my greenhouse with a light . I want the light to be controlled by a switch on the wall and the fan controlled by the pull chain. I have followed the directions and connected the black wire from fan to black from house and the blue wire from the fan to the black wire from the wall switch. It says to connect the white wire from the fan to the white wire from the house. I wired the grounds all together. When I tried it the fan worked fine but the light will not work. Since the directions didn't say to hook the white wire from the switch to anything I thought that that might be the problem so I wired the white wires from the house the switch and the fan all together. The fan still works but no light. I followed the directions exactly but no light Help

More than likely you have a "Switch Loop".

In this situation, the power is brought to the device by a branch circuit. From the supply, you create a loop to the switch and back again. You must connect the white wire from the switch to the Black feed from the branch circuit and the black for the fan. Then use either a Sharpie or electrical tape to mark the white with black, blue or red. This means that the white has been retasked as a hot circuit.

Switches do not use a Neutral they carry only Hot conductors.

If your area is covered by the new, 2011 NEC, then neutral must be run to the switch, if you were adding the switch.

The NEC requires that the White conductor going to the switch is the supply to the switch. The Black conductor must be the return to the device.

Check and make sure you have the correct wiring at the switch.
