I live in a dorm at a university and was wondering what the legal rules are for asking someone to leave. I do not own the space, but I have signed a contract for the academic year.

Define "leave". If this is not an assigned roommate then you talk to the dorm supervisor to have them removed.

I'd also like the definition for "someone."

"someone" - another student, "leave" as in leave my particular room. Do I have a right to throw another person who is not my roommate out of my room though I don't own the space, just have a contract?

Are you the only occupant of the room? If so, you can definitely tell the person to leave. If you have a roommate and this person is there on the roommate's invitation, then you have to deal with your roommate.

If the person refuses to leave or the roommate refuses to tell them to leave, then you go to the dorm supervisor for assistance.

Why is "someone" in your room when you don't want that person there?
