I am searching for the name of a movie in which the Pope dressed like a regualr person and went into the streets of Rome to see what life was like for the people.

Could the film you are seeking be 'Shoes of the Fisherman' starring Anthony Quinn? The film was made in 1968.

It is a about Kiril Lakota, a Russian Archbishop (Quinn) who was released from a Siberian labour camp and taken to Rome where he eventually becomes Pope.

He dresses as a civilian and goes out into the street. He ends up in the home of a Jewish family whose elder relation is dying and although the Pope is a Catholic he administers the Hebrew equivalent of the Last Rites.

Of course there is a lot more to the film and I must admit it is one of my favourites even though I am not a Catholic.

It also stars, Laurence Olivier, Leo McKern and David Janssen.
