    Hot tub flecks?
I have been finding black specks in my hot tub. They float on the top, adhere to the sides at the water line and smear like grease. I looked at the underside of the tub and do not see any black hoses that could be disintegrating. They are very hard to clean off the sides of the tub and filter cover. I have wondered if someone has been smoking pot while using my tub and if this is the cause of this problem.

I'm not 100% (don't worry we have great plumbing experts who should be along shortly), but I think it has something to do with your water. I have humidifiers and they collect the same black flecks and smear the same way. Very annoying indeed. Looking forward to hearing an answer for this one.

    Hello,

My hot springs hot tub/spa was getting the same black spots/specks on my tub walls. Looking into my electrical compartment I saw that my main jet pump (sta-right max-e-glas) had a consistent leak 1 drip per second. So I drained my tub, ordered all new seals for my pump housing, and as I disassembled found the it was my main shaft seal that had shredded, and all of the tiny particles of old rubber were being dispersed into my tub, causing the "black specks that smear like grease". And after a through cleaning and a fresh fill I have had no more problems with any black spots showing up!

Victory! There is nothing better than fixing two problems at once!

    Hope this helps!
