Hi, I just moved into a home that is on a shared pump. We pay the land owners for the usage (IE: for the use of the electricity to run the pump. The pressure is so low that the only way I can get my hair washed well is to kneel under the tub spigot. It's the only source that has some sort of pressure. A neighbor said he hired a plumber that charged him $300 to add some device that increased it. Is there another way that a do it yourselfer can do something to increase the pressure. Appreciate your help and advice.

What your friend's plumber probably did was add a booster pump. This site describes that kind of add-on.

If the landowners will agree, the pressure at the well itself can be increased without much trouble. This site tells how to do it.

Here is the rub. It's hard to say why pressure is so low at your house. It might be that the well pressure is fine, but by the time so many people use it, it can't meet the demand. You would need to start by checking the pressure gauge at the pressure tank itself. Some systems run 20/40, meaning the pump does not cut back on until pressure drops to 20#. 20 is not much. And then you have the problem concerning who owns the well and that is not you. But start at the well. If you can fix your problem there, then so much the better. If not, then check with your neighbor and see how the 300 hundred dollar fix is working for them.

First off, check the gage at the pump when I reaches the cut off point. What is it? If it's low we can adjust the control box to a higher cut out point, But first we need all the details you can give us, Back to you, Tom
