Heat is a normal by-product of electricity running through a light bulb. The worst offender is an incandescent light bulb.
The incandescent bulb heats a Tungsten filament which gives off heat.
That said, what type of bulb are you using? What is the amperage of the circuit and what is the AWG of the cable that connects to the lamp?
Where is the heat ?
You may have disconnected a circuit wire or interrupted it to get power for the light. How did you wire the light? New install or replacement?
