What's the best way to train a 10 week old puppy?
I just got a new puppy and I want to train her. She's 10 weeks today. She knows sit and down from watching the big dog. She's a mix of different ankle-bitter breeds and I don't know which ones. Even if it's only a link to another site that can help it would be fine. But I would like help please. ^.^

Absolutely without question. Kennel train her. Get a kennel that is just a little bit bigger than her. And keep her in the kennel when you are not home. When you come in, immediately take her out and outside to potty. Praise her when she potty's outside.. Pet, say good girl.. over and over.. She will learn to associate pottying on the grass outside with this praise. I have trained every dog I've owned this way after struggling with puppy pads, newspaper, you name it. Once trying this, my dogs were trained in a week! Good luck!

Before you can train your dog you need to be trained. Unless you have trained dogs before I'd second that recommendation for an obedience class. Steeffie may have gotten a different read on your question than I did, this is more than potty training, right?

Steffie makes some great points with house breaking. But I will 3rd the recomondation for obedience classes. Dogs don't understand human language, so you need to be trained on how to communicate with your pup. Puppy classes are a great way to establish yourself as alpha as well as a great bonding experience for the two of you. Sounds like you have a smart pup on your hands, I think she will excel greatly with classes.

    Good luck!

#1 Do NOT take your puppy to puppy class until it is at least 11 weeks. I suggest housebreaking your puppy when he/she is young. Start training your puppy the basic tricks like: sit,lie down, come and stay.
