Can't find a book I read years ago?
I am having trouble finding this book I read years ago in my childhood. I can't remember the title or the author just the illustrations. I am assuming it is a children's book because it has illustrations. It was about a monster or creature of some sort that was really tall and scary looking and carried a carpet bag with it. There were also some children in the book and I think the setting was winter and it was snowing and soot was on the snow at one point but not 100% sure. If anyone has any idea what this book could be please help.

I read it probably in the 1980's or early 90's but doesn't mean to say it was published then

I'm looking for the same book too, they were farly short in length but had great pictures, there was a boy looking at the snow with a spy glass and somehow he ended up at a scientist's house and his niece , they travelled to an ice plantet following or followed bu the creature with the carpet bag, the soot that came out of the bag melted the ice on the planet, trouble is I've no idea what it was called, I believe they were part of series of stories with the same characters.

Has anyone found the title of this book yet? I've been trying to track it down for some time now. Nobody seems to know what it is. I've even had my mum back in the uk, go through the attic for it.
