Magnetic field strength and distance inside a solenoid
How does magnetic field strength vary with distance INSIDE a solenoid?

So as I move away from the centre within the solenoid, how does the field strength change?

Yes, it does. Have you drawn the magnetic field lines in and around a solenoid? Of seen such a diagram? If so, you would have noticed that the spacing between the field lines is roughly twice at the 'mouth' of the solenoid than at its middle.
