I have been smoking from last 20 years now and from last 3 years I am trying to quit this habit but I always failed.. Now I have almost left trying to quit as at the end I get frustrated with no result. Can any one suggest me what should be the best approach to quit this habit. It will be of great help. Thank You :)

There are literally hundreds of sites which offer help in quitting smoking - everything from medication and hypnosis to acupuncture. What have you tried?

The most successful program seems to be a cognitive-behavioral one. (Too many programs focus on nicotine addiction, but the real problem lies elsewhere.)

    Are you in India?

And of course just having respect for your body and making a choice not to. At the end of the day it is a matter of will power.

Are there any cognitive-behavioral programs of any kind in India near you? If not, I will do my best to help you via the Internet, via this site.

Fr_Chuck is correct, that willpower has much to do with quitting, but there are ways to channel your willpower for a successful outcome.

Have you ever tried reducing your smoking as a beginning step?

I am aware that smoking is difficult to quit and each successive failure seems to make it more difficult. There are methods available, that have some success. As Wondergirl has noted a CBT therapist is a starting point, but also requires one that is knowledgeable in smoking behavior. Tough to find.

Do you have access to any type of counseling resource?

Thanks Dr.Brill.. Yes you are correct successive failure has actually made me feel more frustrated and I actually quit trying instead of smoking. No I don't have access to counseling resource.
