Hello, I am wondering if it is really legal for The Dirty.com to allow anonymous users to post pictures of me on The Dirty.com and to make up horrible lies about me for the whole web to read? Is this not defamation of character? Is this not slander? They say that users may not post pictures unless they own the copyright. So if they are using pictures downloaded from Facebook is this OK because Facebook owns my pictures? Is there anything I can do to get my pictures and name removed from the website? Thank you

If you're having a problem with this then why don't you simply have the post REMOVED.
EVERY story has a link that does just that..

If you really want to try and start a legal fight over this then good luck, but removal of the pictures etc would be stress free.

I just took a look at this site, and frankly I'm appalled. This site seems to be the worst kind of pandering. Its basically an online bathroom wall.

But, as such, I'm not sure how seriously it can be taken or is taken. They have disclaimers up the wazoo and I doubt if they can be held responsible for what others post.

There is a remove link attached to each story, have you used it?

Perhaps the form of defamation known as "libel". Libel means published in written form.
Unless you can prove that it's seen by someone who knows you, I suppose technically it wouldn't have been "published". I, for one, have never heard of this site before.

In any event, if not seen by any acquaintance of yours, there wouldn't be any damages.

To those suggesting it - the remove link does not work.

They say they will "consider" removal, but it is just a line of bull. People are permitted to post lies (granted, I'm sure a few are true) that are made up because someone is holding a grudge and doesn't care who they hurt, and the website has disclaimers all over it to cover their own butts.They stating that anything posted is not their opinion, just gossip and here-say. It's sites and people like this that are responsible for so many suicides and suicide attempts... They should be banned, but it's just another case of our first amendment rights being used for bad things and to inflict pain on others. The forefathers are probably rolling in their graves!!
