I need help with waterproofing my new shower
I am building a custom shower, My house is on a concrete slab so I'm not sure if I need the orange waterproofing membrane. I plan on putting concrete backer board up, and putting the shower in. I'm posting a picture of my shower. I'm hoping the concrete backer board will be all I need. I'm also going to be using tile. Please help!

There are several ways of waterproofing shower base. Two most used methods are Hot Mop and Vinyl Liner. I am enclosing photo of Hot Mopped shower base.

Looking at your photo, you are set up for bath tub. In this case, you will need to cut concrete to move drain to its desired location, then to install trap and appropriate shower drain head. Here, make sure the drain head has weep-holes.

As far as framing goes - and regardless of which mentioned method you use - you will have to install 12" tall wood blocks around the base and about 4" high curb in front.

Hope that helps. Back to you. Milo

In addition to Milo's answer I would also put black tar paper between concrete floor and vinyl liner
