Hi I have a white english bull terrier x who suffers terrible with her skin she has lumps all over her and is itching like mad she is 2 yrs old and has suffered with this for 16 months I have taken her to the vets and they can't help! I have done food diarys for her and nothing!now the only thing I can put it down to is the weather as it does come and go she flares up when the weather changes but can I really balme the weather? I bath her in porridge oats and this does help for a very short period! I'm at my witts end!

I absolutely love this breed, all around terrier, very smart and a shame she is having this problem.

I guess you don't know what she is crossed with because that may be the problem. Oatmeal baths are good but how long can you go on doing that. They are short haired terriers so maybe there is some lotion you can use.

She may grow out of this, ciarabear, she is not exactly an adult dog yet at 2; and perhaps you should another vet because the problem could be internally.

Sorry I can't help anymore then this, but will put on my thinking cap and see what comes up.

I had the same problem with my English bulldog, at the end I notice he was allergic to a lot of different brands of dog food. There's only 1 brand that warranties to improve skin problems the name its "Nutro Max " get the green bag. Give it a try, my dog started with the little lumps and then she was missing patches of hair, after 2 weeks I started noticing the difference. Good luck

There are other brands which are recommended for skin problems, at least two of which are sold only by Vets.

Hi thank you so much for getting back they are the best she is such a littls darling... she has seen 4 different vets and nothing! Her mum is an american bull terrier and has no skin problems at all her dad is as fit as a fiddle to. I will defo look in to that food we are willing to try anything .

Let me find an expert on how and what to feed - some people feed a "raw" diet or variations.

We have one member - and I know this sounds bizarre - whose dog had all sorts of skin problems. She began feeding the dog GREEN BEANS every day... and it worked. My GSD has had skin problems for years. One of the problems ended up to be Fabreze which a woman who cleans for me occasionally was using.

I also went from Vet to Vet to Vet.

Eek! I would not recommend Nutro Max.. Nutro Max is the "Cheap" food from Nutro and doesn't have the near the amount of good ingredience vs bad ingredience.

Definitely try the raw diet. Sometimes dogs are allergic to the preservative that the food is baked in. If you can eliminate the preservative, then it'll be easier to find a food that is cheaper than the raw diet. I would contact someone who is a nutritionish for what you need to feed and what supplements to give. Some vets do have references for these types of specialists.

Oatmeal is a very drying shampoo.. I don't know why the medical world for animals likes it. I have a mange dog right now, very itchy, dry skin.. I made a special shampoo for her that helps her out tremendously... And its cheap... Go to the store and purchase a 15 oz bottle of KERI lotionn(original or even Eucerin original) and mix with the off brand (I got the store brand) of Dandruff shampoo... the type with 1% Pyrithione Zinc. Also add a few drops of Lavender extract. Mix it all together and bathe her in it. This combination helps with dry, itchy, irritated skin that is being itched raw. Its not going to cure your dog, food allergies are within the body and so are most environmental allergies, but it will make her feel more comfortable

Keep in mind, any type of diet you decide to go with, give it at least 1-2 months. The body may get a bad reaction at first and then even itself out. But any of the foods you give, you have to give it a chance. Nothing works over night or in a couple of weeks, it does take months.

It may be something in the food you least expect. I have a dog here who is allergic to beef, so he is on a lamb and chicken diet. Doesn't matter if I feed preservatives, colors or any of that, it's only beef that effects him.

He is also a white dog. I think whites seem to be more prone to skin conditions than their darker counterparts.

Hi, I also have an eglish bull terrier, white, that has skin allergies. She is 10 months old. First outbreak were hives all over her body that got larger and multiplied quickly within a few hours. I took her to the vet and they gave a shot, anti-inflamatory one and her skin was back to normal within an hour!

It has been a month and I have noticed that she is getting an allergy again, but this time it looks completely different. It looks like pinkish spots and it seems like she is losing hair because she is sheading like crazy. They are not big spots... very small and all over her trunk. This time the antibiotics that vet gave me did nothing... except cost me $250!

Someone told me to give her benedryl, 1/2 a tablet, twice a day for 4 days.. and this has helped a lot. She doesn't have redness around her eyes and nose and her skin is looking so much better. It is not back 100% because it takes time for the hair to grow back but she looks a lot better.

Also... I feed her Blue Buffalo... they have one kind that is for dogs prone to allergies. And they guarantee that your dog won't have an allergy from it. She loves it and vet said it is good also.
