Is it normal to completely stop bleeding three weeks after having a baby?
I had my son a month and a half ago and just three weeks after having him I stopped bleeding and after that I started going back to my normal day to day life and I have been having sex, I still haven't had a period and I'm starting to get worried that I may be pregnant because I don't know when my normal period is suppose to begin, my boyfriend has been pulling out but I am worried because I haven't bled since and I have had some cramping as if I was going to start at anytime but I haven't yet, should I get a pregnancy test? I'm not sure what to do.

It can be perfectly normal to stop having discharge in three weeks. Many women will find the bleeding after a baby, called lochia, will be like a heavy period at first, and then will tapper off and change color over the next few weeks. When it stops completely will vary from person to person.

If you are exclusively breastfeeding, you may find you do not have a return of a period for a number of months. If you are formula feeding, often the first period will show up about 8-10 weeks after birth.

It is important to remember that you do ovulate before a period, so it can happen where someone has a two month old and finds themselves pregnant again without ever having restarted periods. While some women may get a "freebe" period without ovulation first, don't count on it. Be sure to use proper protection every time you have sex if you want to lessen the chances of an unplanned pregnancy so close to the first.

Withdrawal method takes a great deal of control, and knowing your body well. This makes it an unreliable method of birth control for many couples. You may want to consider an alternative method.

You could always try a pregnancy test so that you can know for sure one way or the other.

    Congrats on your new son!

My bleeding stopped quickly, I don't remember how quick but it was less than 3 weeks I am pretty sure.

    Congratulations! :)
