If I voluntarily relinquished my rights to my daughter 5 years ago, can I get them restored?
I owed 20k in child support and had just lost my job. The mother offered to waive the child support if I relinquished my rights. I gave in, but I would really like to see my daughter again.
Any advice would be helpful.

How did you "give up your rights" it is so rare and almost never allowed to have the judge agree and sign off for you to lose your rights, just to not pay child support, normally if you are even allowed, you would still owe the money.

Now if you just signed a paper the mother wrote up, and never went to court, most likely you never legally gave up anything.

On the other hand if you signed to clear the way for an adoption then its unlikely you can regain any rights.

So you approach the mother and ask if you can be part of your daughter's life.

As the previous post have said : this is very unusual... unless it was for adoption.

Only you know the answers...

I cannot imagine that the Mother of the child, would not allow her daughter, to see her own Father,unless she has been adopted legally.

However, as the daughter grows,she will naturally ask questions about you and I imagine will seek you out,should you be unable, to see her now.

All you can do at present is appeal to her Mothers good nature,should the case be that you cannot see your daughter, maybe you can both find a compromise.

Read the threads in this forum. In a large portion of them, some mother is claiming that the father of her child is a good-for-nothing, drug-abusing, convict and the mother wants to know how to get him out of her life for good. :rolleyes:

It is common for mothers ( or fathers) to refuse the other parent to see the child, they try to turn the child against them and more

Your statement is an obvious one.Yes I have read many posts of this nature.

If this is the case ( we do not know this )then visitation rights to the daughter, are out of the question.

The question posted was :wether or not rights could be restored.

I have given my opinion to the best of my knowledge.
