AC comes on, blower has very long delay.
How long?
Just to clarify... Your outdoor unit is coming on before your furnace/air handler blower comes on?
HI Guys,
Thanks for the response. Yes the outdoor unit comes on quickly, then the blower may take another 3-4 minutes to come on. IF I turn the fan on by itself manually, it comes on immediately. But if I ask it to cool, the above happens. Is this normal or a problem with the board on the blower unit, which also doubles as a furnace and is in my attic?
Could be a board issue... has anyone serviced the unit lately that may have changed the dip switch setting for the blower delay?
The air conditioners get serviced every spring, but I skipped the maintenance on the furnace this year because we never needed the heat in AZ. To the best of my knowledge the dip switch settings were not touched. Is a 3-4 min. delay unusual, or am I worrying about nothing?
It is unusual as the blower should kick on because if you are not passing air over the indoor coil you can cause damage to the compressor... the way it operates is it sends liquid inside the house and as it passes through the inside coil it turns to a vapor, to go back to the compressor, from the inside air passing over the coils. If the refrigerant goes back as a liquid it is possible to cause damage to the valves inside the compressor. I would definitely have a qualified technician come out to service the unit as it will be cheaper now than it will be to replace a compressor.
