200 amp main to a 100 amp sub panel.
I have a 200 amp main in the garage that is completely full. I want to add a 100 amp sub panel right next to it,(a few feet away) so I can add some wiring to the attic and basement. What size cable is required to connect the 200 to the 100 sub indoors just a few feet away?

You may use either #3 copper THHN or #1 aluminum XHHW .

Is it OK if I already bought 2224?

I will assume the #2 is aluminum, which you may use only if you protect it with a 90 Amp breaker.

Would have been good to mention that in your original question.

I didn't buy it until my question went unanswered for 2 days, The electrical guy at Home depot said 2 2 2 4 would be the way to go. 100amp breaker. I'm only running 2-15amp and 1-20amp circuits from it. I have an electrician friend coming to install it so if he says its not right I will toss it. I only needed 6 feet of it. He is out of state hunting and I can't get in touch with him until sat. Was hoping to have everything here ready to go for him. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

Clerks in stores should not be giving advice unless they have a license for that trade. And he is incorrect on the 100 Amp breaker on this feeder with #2 Al to a subpanel.

What I see for date/time stamps is you posted a question on 10/19/11 at 11:05 AM and me answering the same day at 11:20 AM. Is that what you see?

Since you have an electrician installing the feeder, any liability or code violations will fall under his license.
