All right guys, this will be a tough one.
I remember seeing this when I was young, so I'm thinking it's an 80s or 90s movie. I have a vague recollection of it being about someone trying to prove the existence of something magical (fairies, leprechauns, sprites... Who knows). I think there's a young boy in it.

What I really remember is one scene: An old country house at night, (in england maybe?) there's someone walking around a darkened kitchen, looking for something. All of a sudden, these flashes of lights come out and fly around the kitchen, they're very bright (they're sprites or fairies or something. They fly through the house and the person (a man I think) is super surprised, the scene cuts to the outside of the house and the lights flash all around the house and into a great garden beside the house.

I seem to remember that there were (perhaps) angry villagers... But this could be my imagination.
