2 miscarriages after 2 previous successful pregnancies?
I am 30 years old. My Husband and I are trying again for children. I was 22 and 23 when we had our first two children together. No problems with conception or pregnancy, both babies were full-term. I delivered via c-section for both. The first for fetal distress, the second since it was so soon after the first. Naturally, due to the closeness of their births, we took a break. We have started trying again. In the last year, I have had 2 miscarriages- the first @ 8 weeks, the second @ 6 weeks. I am seeing a midwife, she is suggesting a possible hormonal deficiency as the cause since hormones maintain the baby until the placenta "kicks in". Any thoughts? We have decided to wait another year to start trying again, both for financial and emotional reasons. When we do start trying, I will consult with the OB/GYN who practices with my midwife, in the meantime I wanted to research the possibilities.

    Hi mntaylor,

I am sorry to hear of your losses.

It's possible hormones are an issue. Progesterone is required to maintain a pregnancy until the placenta starts production... usually about week 10 or so. A low level is one of the more common reasons for early miscarriages, but thankfully is also usually easy to sort out if it is indeed determined to be the cause. It is often one of the first things tested for when there have been repeat miscarriages.

I wish you the best when you do decide to resume the journey!
