I press clean and start. The oven shows cleaning on, an beeps that the door is locking. After several beeps, the door doesn't lock, abd the cleaning process shuts off. The baking/broiling functions work fine. Just can't get it to clean. Your thoughts?

I have an electric cooktop kenmore stove/oven left by the previous ownsers with no manual. I need instructions on how to use the self-clean feature. Do I need to set the timer?

It's basically a simple problem: get a meter and check the solenoid that locks the door You should read around 1-2 kilo-ohms for it to be good. If it is in mega-ohms it's bad. If the solenoid is good then check micro-switch that proves whether it's locked. Personally, I have never used the self-cleaning feature because I had rather just use a little oven cleaner on a warm oven and save electricity. You could do this, too.
