We have been living in our house for 8 years, and I am noticing that the paint is chipping right where the dry wall nails are at. Those are the only places the paint is coming off. Any ideas?

Did you use a primer or sealer to cover those areas first? Some interior paints have a tough time bonding to metal.
Nails aren't even supposed to be at the surface. They are supposed to be taped and compounded. Are they nails or screws? Nails means quite a few years ago. You may have to set them with a nail punch, cover with joint compound (get the ready mixed kind) with a putty knife, sanded when dry, primed, and THEN painted.
