You are correct, there is truth and false in almost every statement, it all depends often from the view point one has.
On your first question, what do you mean by "vast" I mean compared to some local farms of 4000 acres, their estates may not have been vast, but compared to normal life style of the time , they may have been vast. So it all depends on who is viewing it.

Plus of course, you need to answer I guess according to the view of your text book, and that of the teacher has taught.
