I think my's puppy's sick. We just bought him from the animal shelter yesterday and he seems weak and helpless. At times he will get up but since he's not eating he doesn't have much energy! I don't know what to feed him because he's teething so he has no teeth basically so how would he eat hard puppy food? I tired making it a bit damp but he didn't really eat that either. This morning I was helpless for him to eat so we fed him little pieces of eat, just a bit though, and he ate that. Also he keeps gagging and then tries to throw-up but nothing comes out. He did that all yesterday and this morning. I think he hasn't been eating at the shelter for some time now since he's weak and fragile. ): what type of food would you recommend? Maybe a home made meal for him?

I think he needs a Vet and you need to call the shelter.

It could be anything from Parvo on up (or down).

He needs a check up.

Ditto on the check up and calling the shelter, get a history from them.
How long he had been there?
How was his appetite and activity?
Did they deworm or give any vaccines?
Under what circumstances they got him? (if they are allowed to tell you)
Have they had any parvo suspects or parvo deaths? (again, if they are allowed to tell you) and in what time frame?
I'm not saying that it is parvo, just a question worth asking to get a better picture of what may be going on.
While you have them on the line ask if they work with any vet clinics that provide adopters with a no charge exam?
If you're lucky your regular vet will be one those clinics, of course diagnostic testing will most likely be your responsibility, but if you save the cost of the exam then that won't be so bad.
Seeing as it is Sunday, however, you may have no choice but to seek emergency care if he continues to not eat.
And if he is nauseated he will likely turn down most anything you offer him. You can try something bland like boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. (no seasoning) in small amounts, don't overload him. If he vomits then get him in to see a vet sooner rather than later.
Just remember that he is small and cannot go without eating or drinking for very long, he will become dehydrated.

So what is it?

Puppies that are teething still eat... I would hope at 9wks, that the puppy is not losing all its teeth... For a teething puppy, you can soak old socks in water, maybe add some chicken broth, and freeze it. The puppy will enjoy something cold on his achy gums.

This puppy sounds unhealthy. I would contact the shelter and ask for their vet, or a vet they use, to see the dog. If they are a good shelter, and have a trial period, they should pay for this visit and any mediciations given, since its apparent they sold you a sick dog.

If you are feeding this dog, and the dog is gagging and trying to throw up, I would suspect there is something stuck in his throat or something wrong in the GI tract.

Stop force feeding him, you may make things worse. Call the shelter than call the vet they use. If they refuse to help you, call your own vet.
