    Sick Kitten
I adopted a 8 week old kitten from a shelter. The shelter said that he was a rescue and had been eating solid food until he was wormed. I had the cat for 4 day then took him to the vet. He would not eat, low body temp. And was depressed. The vet said to force feed 3cc every 2 hours and use a heating sock. I took the kitten back after 2 days of feeding him and using the heating pad. His temp was lower, he had lost weight, and was still depressed. He was kept in the hospital. At the hospital he received IV fluids, blood work, antibiotics, more food, more heating pads, and well $400 worth of stuff over 2 days. He developed diarrhea and still has the same symptoms. The blood work was normal and the vet said we should leave him there. However, $400 is more than I make in a week and I have a family to take care of. It would be one thing if the vet could tell me what is wrong or explain why he is not improving, but they have no answers. I have used this vet before in the past, so I do not think that it is the vets fault for not knowing. Anyway the kitten has been home for 6 hours. I am feeding him every 2 hours and making sure his temp is up. (98-99 is up for him) His temp dropped once and he went into shock, but he is doing better right now. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any thoughts? Advise? (My husband says to take him back to the shelter and get a different cat.)

Was the kitten taken from his litter mates and his mom? Normally, I wouldn't adopt a kitten until it was closer to 12 weeks old. Eight weeks is pretty young for only solid food. Do you supplement with a kitten milk?

I tried to use supplement milk, but he would not take it. The vet said to use liquid food. He was found stuck inside an apartment window alone, well that was what the shelter said. Next time I will only get older kittens.

Who knows how long he was stuck and starving. Thanks for rescuing him. (Four of mine are rescues.) Too bad about his health situation. I really wish you well and hope he perks up. He could end up being The Best Cat Ever.
