I moved into a new house 2 years ago, the house is roughly 7 years old. There is stall type shower in basement unfinished, but dry was up, shower hook-up in... I had it waterproofed and tiles. The shower valve (controling the hot/cold) was already installed. The problem: When I turn the dial, no water comes out. I hear a very very slight sound of pressure released if I leave the dial on off for awhile and then turn it on. The valve is a delta. Toilet and sink the bathroom have water.

Any idea I why I have no water flowing?

Remove the handle and escutcheon plate and see if there are shut off valves under it. Make sure they are align with the water flow direction. If they are, shut off the valves, remove the main stem, then open them slightly to flush out the piping and make sure that all water passages are open. Reassembel and turn the water back on. Single handle fixtures are prone to dirt and debris in the valving, particularly on a new or unused setup.

there are not shut-off vales on the outside of the main valve unit. I left the dial in the on position and I got a dribble of water that came out of the shower head. It is single handle, I will take the 'guts" of the value out and make sure there is not any debris.

My system does not have sut off valves. I took out the old assemble and ensured water was flowing to the valve... it was. I bought a new replacement assemble, inserted it, turned on the water and still no water to the shower head. Frustrated!

Any thoughts?

Sometimes an integral shut off looks like no more than a small brass screw facing outward just after the inlet. Do you know which model you have? There is a shut off somewhere. I would never leave a shower rough in with live water pressure.

Ballenger - the series is delta multichoice 1300 & 1400. When I replaced the cartridge I have water flush from the valve?

I was about to suggest screw driver stops.( located where the supplies connect to the valve body) but Bob beat me to it. Have you removed the shower head off and turned the valve on? Let me know, Tom

Speedball - yes I have taken the head off. I am getting a little drip of water out, but onle a drop or two.

Turn off the water, open up the valve and pull the cartridge. C heck the inlet ports on the cartridge for trash and blockage. Now turn the water back on to flush out the supplies and valve. (there should be a strong flow) Reassemble and test. Better flow now? Let me know, Tom

No integral stops on this valve. MC, what are you saying or asking here "When i replaced the cartridge I have water flush from the valve??" Correct you sentence and repost please
