I have a friend on felony probation and he is homeless, he recently contacted his family out of state and they sent him a bus ticket. My friend wants to do the right thing and with his familys help pay his fines but he is not sure how to go about it. Please give me an answer.

If he wants to leave the state he must have his probation transferred to that state prior to his leaving the state. He can use the money his family sent him to help pay off his fines, etc But he should not leave the state unless he gets his probation transferred or he will be in violation.

If he has already left the state where his probation is then he probably has already been violated by that state.

Which is it? Did he leave the state where he is on probation?

I am sure you and he is aware that he can not just get on a bus and leave the state, if so, he will merely get locked back up in jail for violation of his probation.

He will have to get permission of the probation dept though the probation officer to move.

He needs to look into local shelters till he can get it approved
