Is there a distance a shower or tub switch must be away from the door or tub? What code is it?

Code varies from state to state and not all towns adopt the latest code. Where are you? My code says 39" and it must be GFCI protected

I have to say, I haven't heard of any local amendments on this, but I wouldn't doubt some exist.

The NEC says not within the tub or shower area. That's it.

Roswell, NM It seemed that I could remember reading 39" as well but now that I go back through the 2008 NEC I can only find, not within shower or tub. Lol Thank you both for your help.
