Is it possible for asbestos fibres to come down my chimney? I don't know if there is asbestos there, but there is aform of air pollution going on as my nose an throat get irritated an chest becomes sore. I'm pretty sure its not dust or mold as there is no signs of mold and its cleaned often enough? Can someone please help?

Is this a new or old home? Do you know if any insulation was recently installed?

The house is about 35 years old and yes the roof space was newly lagged with insulation about 2 years ago, does this make a difference?

Yes being new insulation that might be where your problem is. Some of the newer kind had problems with formaldahyde. That can give the effect you mention in your post. You might want to have that checked.

Is it possible for it to affect only this one room cause it's the only room that affects me an if so does the particles enter the chimney an escape into the rooom?

There could be cracks your not aware of in the mortar or the fact that bricks are semi pourus materials. It could leak in that way.

Sorry to bother you again but would it be possible for formaldehyde to come off a large old wooden cabinet that is in the room also. I've been reading it can come off different types of wood also?

Mainly it can come from vinyl. So if there is an artificial coating(laminate) on the "wood" then it can give off fumes. If you have all natural wood and you have had it for awhile you should be OK.

There is actually a laminate on this wood, I shall remove it maybe first just to see. Thank you, once again for your help..
