I have two mini pins but this pit is so much bigger I have know idea how to take care of a pit , I know that most of what I have read about them sounds so wrong. This mama dog I found is so sweet and genteel. I do not know what to do with this dog ,I put an add on Craig's list so far but does any one know where I can take her in Hollywood FL to see if she has a chip? I am afraid to bring her to a shelter because I don't want her to be killed.. But I need any advice about how to take care of her while I search for her people.. She is fawn colored with red eyes and nose , she looks like she had babies before..

Many shelters are no-kill now (find them by Googling or calling the reference desk at your public library). Once you have several numbers, call several near you to make sure they are no-kill and to find out if they can check for a chip. The shelter will also give you information on how to care for her.

Thanks for taking her in! If she's a sweet pup, she may have escaped somehow from a loving family who will be glad to get her back again.

Many Vets have scanners. Call yours and ask. Look for a pit bull rescue group in your area. They know all there is to know about re-homing pits.

Whenever I find a lost dog I take it in to my local vet to be scanned for a chip, although I have yet to pick up a stray dog that has actually had one.
You could try posting some found posters around your area or if your local newspaper has a lost pets section post it in there.
Just be careful though if you post it in a newspaper not to post a detailed description of the dog, let the callers describe her to weed out any possible people just after a pitbull that is not their own.

As for taking care of her, one of our dog experts is also a bully breed expert so if you cannot find the owners she will have lots of tips for you on taking care of this lovely girl.

Most vets will have a scanner and the coding for all the different chips out there now, shelters in your area will likely have them also.
In addition to scanning her if that turns up nothing, you could call all the local vet clinics and leave contact information, many people will call clinics to ask if someone has turned in or reported a found dog.
The "found" flyers Shaz mentioned is another good idea, but I'll reiterate her here and suggest also that you have the caller give you a description.
As far as caring for her, it's pretty much the same as caring for any other dog, good food, clean water, safe shelter and TLC, although there is something implied by the term "bully breed"
Like you, I think that pits get a bad rap, but I will go out on a limb here, since you know nothing about her upbringing, and say that they are a breed that can be given to food aggression and territorialism, she may may not be that way at all, mine is not, but I know about his upbringing.
I don't know that I would push the envelope with your little guys, if you don't plan to keep her.
With any dog safety is always the best policy with regards to the safety of your own pets.
