    F250 diesel
OK, here's the thing. I have a 2004 f250 6 liter power stroke diesel. I purchased new from dealership to pull a 30ft 5th wheel. I keep up with oil changes, fuel filter and all. I have heard people say you have a big problem. I felt lucky so far got some 75,000 miles on it and haven't had any real problems. I have had the EGR changed (I guess that is what it is called) that was due to carbon build up. Lately it has decided to run for a while, then acts like no fuel and stalls out. Pull off the road and won't re-start. If given a little time it does start and begins to run normally until the next time. A local mechanic has told me that it needs a new oil pressure pump to the tune of some 2000.00. Well I guess that is OK if it fixes the problem. I am worried that if I'm towing my trailer and have the same problem might have an accident of get stranded on the road. Note I have a disabled adult son that travels with me. Do I have the ford lemon?

    Suggestions:

. Change both fuel filters (Motorcraft only)--under hood and under frame.

. Replace the fuel pump--it may be getting heat soaked and the fuel pressure drops. Check this out--much cheaper than replacing the oil pressure pump.

. Start using full synthetic heavy duty diesel engine oil, along with a Motorcraft oil filter. This will help in many ways, especially with carbon build-up in the EGR and preventing turbo problems. Engine will start easier, last longer, get better gas mileage, and smoke less.
