9 year old dog randomly peed in our house
WE got our amazing dog from the humane society 3 years ago, and he is now about 9 years old. He is a flat coat lab/ Bernise mtn. Dog mix. He is a great dog-housebroken, trained on an invisible fence, gets out for a run every day with me--gets a lot of attention. The first night we took him home from the Humane Society, he peed in a spot in our house. He hasn't peed there since (3 years ago). Tonight we came home from being gone for 5 hours (he stays home alone all day while we are working-8-9 hours) and he had peed in the same spot. I have tried to clean it up with vinegar and water, and blotted it up with a dry towel. I also laid baking sode on top of it and will vacuum that up in the morning. Any other ideas as to how to get rid of this random tendency to pee there, and why do you think he is doing this?

A combination of age, unusual break in routine (gone on a Sunday for 5 hours), perhaps not peeing when he had the chance earlier, needing to pee after you fed him (?) and he then drank a lot, and lastly, the same spot he smells from before. Many dogs do this once in a great while. I put something really awful smelling on the spot after cleaning it. You can buy special products, but I use what I have - like cheap cologne or pine scented ammonia. (Which I inherited.) They do work.
