    If you get a marriage license and have a judge or preacher marry you ( at least in the US)

    It's called common law marriage and it depends where you live.

    If you are in the US, very few places have common law marriage any longer and all would be longer than 6 months in the US. Can you tell us more about where you are at

    You are legally married if you are married by a person authorized to perform a civil marriage ceremony.

    While some places do allow for common law marriages, 6 months would hardly qualify.

    When posting a question here it helps if you explain your question fully. For example you left out after six months of WHAT? That's a key part of the question. Also, is there a reason this was posted under Immigration law rather than Family Law? Please use the Answer options below to clarify your question.
