Two Handle Moen shower diverter, what position must it be for the water to go up to the shower head

If this is just a 2 handle shower valve just turning it on should send water to the shower head if it is piped correctly. If it is a tub and shower valve, diverter should be on spout If you could post a picture or model number would be helpful.

Puff is bang on. If your valve is a two knob valve then you have a spout diverter, (see image) and you pull the diverter knob up to divert from tub to shower.
