I am very worried about our puppy. She is about 12 weeks old and she is half pit half lab. She has not been eating or drinking much for the last two days. She looks very skinny and she has had some loose stoolsand vomiting. This started two days ago, but yesterday she was fine, although she still would not eat much she would play and run around. Today she will barely get off the couch and I have had to make her drink water. Please help my kids love her so much. We have 4 other dogs that are not showing any symptoms of being ill.

She needs to see the vet. The question is do you need to seek emergency care now or can it wait until Monday? If it progresses to diarrha, and the lethergy continues, do not hesitate, contact a vet, your regular vets's emergency nimber, or see if his regular number answers, or an emergency clinic. That is the symptoms of parvo, a great, suden killer of young puppies. Quickly getting the puppy on IV is the only hope. If the older dogs are up to date on their shots, they should, but may not be safe.

I posted yesterday about my pit/lab puppy. I went to the store last night and got some gatorade and baby food. She seems to be doing a lot better. I did call all of the vets in our town and none of them have emergency hours. I am just hoping I can keep her hydrated enough. I have been taking the gatorade in a medicine syringe and making her take it, she is doing a lot better and even drinking some on her own. Thanks for the advice labman.

Hi Shannon. I didn't see your posting yesterday. You seem like a very loving and responsible woman. I am actually a bit shocked that the vets in your area do not supply emergency service. Your regular vet should have been more accommodating and I would definitely speak with him about it if your puppy takes a turn for the worse.

Labman is very, very good with his advice. I am glad that your puppy seems to be a little better but, first thing in the morning you need to get her to the vet, as he suggested. Please don't put it off because it seems she is improving a bit. You may get home tomorrow after work and find things are much, much worse. If it is parvo, it is a killer virus and even though your other dogs may be immunized, it is highly contagious and they can still contract it.

Like Rubypitbull, I am disappointed the vets didn't help. I hope they would have responded if it had the symptoms of parvo. Unless she is improving more, I would still take her in Monday.

Well I am happy to announce that my puppy is fully recovered. My other puppy a dachshund names bitty came down with the same symptoms I treated her the same way as the other dog, with lots of fluids and she recovered as well. They are both doing great and back to normal. Thank you so much for all the advice everyone. If I ever have anymore pet questions I will not hesitate to visit again.

I am glad everything came out OK. It really is tough to sort out when the puppy needs to see the vet and when it will be Ok not to. It is a judgment call, and sometimes judgment calls will be wrong.
