Yes it will work but it also depends on the size of the drain pipe. As far as venting, if it is acceptable where you live, use an Air Admittance Valve, AAV or Studor vent at the sink. We use these in GA all the time and they work great for situations like yours. There should be no odor.

Code differs. Under UPC, if you have 1 1/2 drain than vent should be about 4 1/2' away. If you have 2" drain than vent can be 5' away.

Generally speaking, yes it will work. But if you are really concerned about proper venting than do as ma0641 said: install AAV along the way on horizontal "dirt arm" pipe.

The drain pipe is normal from the sink--but it is a 4" main drain that drains straight down. What is the AAV ? Can you get it at like Lowe's or home depot --how do you install it?

    Thanks

How does the AAV work--where can I see how to install one?

First order, will this job be permitted and inspected or will this be a DYS project?
If you're going to do the job yourself I say. "go for it." Codes are there to protect the health of the nation but sometimes codes can be downright silly. Over the years I've learned to be flexible.
Do I think the extra 3 foot will drain drain and vent OK with the proper slope? Yes I do. In point of fact in my area a 2 " lateral in the wall would be legal . If your home was built over 40 years ago the pipe inside the wall would be 1 1/2" which under my code,(Standard Plumbing Code), would let you run 5'. Now that's close enouh for me. Would you need a AAV,(Air Admittance Valve? Not in my book you wouldn't.
In short I would install the job as planned and I wish you good luck. Tom

I would go with Tom's reply. In my area you can be 5' from the vent on 1 1/2" and 6' from the vent with 2". I would not have a concern with it, but if you do, you can buy a 1 1/2" trap that has a AAV on it. It installs just like any other trap on the kitchen sink.

Keith, AAV is Air Admittance Vent also called Pro-Vent. My Lowe's and Home Depot carries it. However, don't look for them in plumbing department. They are usually displayed with gas flex and gas valves and packaged in small plastic bags. Good luck. Milo
