In messenger my keyboard types letters instead of numbers on first letter press. I have a emachine keyboard and there is no FN key. Can you help?

You may have Num Lock on. There should be a button on your keyboard to enable/disable num lock.

If you can't find num lock:
Click Start.
Just above it is a bar the reads "Search Programs and Files"
Type osk into the bar. This will open the on-screen-keyboard.
Disable num lock from there.
