Can I receive child support for my child even though the father is incarcerated?
I have never received a dime in support from my sons father and he is in the Illinois Departmentment of Corrections and due to be released this July. Can I do anything to start receiving support for our child while he is still incarcerated?

There may be a program in place for inmates to meet their obligations while incarcerated by working in prison. (There is such a program in the federal prison system). The DOC is a good place to look for information.

I assume you have filed for child support and been awarded such support from a court. If not, then no support is currently owed.

Since convicts have a minimal income, where do you think the payments would come from? You may be eligible for public assistance, have you checked into that?

As kc stated there may be a program through the prison that you can check into.

Once he is released, he will be responsible for paying support, assuming a support order is in place.
