1990 honda accord runs great at all times but very rich black smoke from tailpipe on acceleration catcon has been removed. Of course terrible gas mileage but car does run very smooth.

Sounds like a timing issue on your car, if your car is running to advanced it will run rich. Another likely cause is your fuel pressure regulator has gone bad.
