    Inheritance
Hi! My father in law past away a few months ago. His wife, a daughter and a son(my husband) survived him. My husband was at the time of his father?s death living in a different country and he was never told about his father?s death and found out through a relative. He decided to travel to the US to see his mother and find out what was going on. Now he finds himself with weird answers and comments from his mom who seems to be hiding a lot of stuff, for example she doesn't?t want to show him the will his father left? Something smells fishy. Can she do that? Is my husband entitled to inherit anything even if his mother is still alive? What can he do to find things out?

If there was a will, then he is only entitled to whatever the will lists. He can check with the local probate court to see if a will has been probated.

If there was no will, then the estate has to be distributed according to the laws of inheritance where his father died.
