It's an older home and bathroom is on the 2nd floor. I was hoping I wouldn't have to break any floors. Any other ideas?

They only make 10, 12, and 14 inch toilets that I know of. Was there a toilet there before, or is this a new closet flange rough in? If there is indeed an 8 or 9 rough toilet, I would like to know about it. Hope one of the other pros here knows more. Good luck.

Actually, Duravit puts out a "Happy D" Series 8.5 inch rough in toilet... cost is about $500.00 - $600.00, but it'll work for sure!

Another option would be to install an 1.5" offset flange (see image) to the toilet waste line and install a 10" rough in toilet. This will involve chipping out a bit of the floor at the flange area, but any hole should be covered by the new toilet.

Good question...

If you are asking about the toilet, then no, the water volume used is the same 1.6 gallons per flush for most toilets nowadays (some are dual flush... even lower volume).

If you are asking about the offset flange I can tell you that I have installed maybe 15-20 of these over the years and not a single customer ever mentioned any issues so you should be OK, too! :)

The question was important to ask and you may hear of negative experiences with offset flanges... especially on line. For what it is worth, the only time I ever saw issues with offset flanges is when the wax ring spread into the offset flange and impeded flow. Otherwise, never had a problem!

If you use the offset flange that Mark shows with the metal ring you will have no problem. If you use a all PVC offset flange they are wide in the front of flange and very narrow at the back of flange and tend to crack at the T bolt slot holes over time and leak in the back as time washes the wax ring away from the back narrow part of the flange.

Yeah agree there Puffmugs... never, ever use all PVC closet flange... regular or offset flange... crack too easy!
