1099G (Filled 1040 NR EZ) and accepted 5000 standard deduction last year
    Hi
I had filled in a 1040 NR EZ last year. And in Line 11 for itemized deduction I used the 5000$ standard deduction for student from india (Was on F1/H1B in 2005 and H1B in 2006). Now I got a 1099G for my state tax returns. Everyone is saying if you did itemize your last year federal returns then you need to use it or else not. Now I am confused if I need to do anything with this 1099G stuff with this years federal return or should I just ignore it. Also I'm not sure which form to use now since I have been on H1B all year. Any help is highly appreciated.

    Vikas:

You did NOT itemize. The $5,000 you claimed is the STANDARD deduction, not an itemized deduction (despite of the fact that Line 11 is marked ITEMIZED Deduction).

BOTTOM LINE: Ignore the Form 1099G.

    Hey AtlantaTaxExpert
That was a real quick reply. Thank you for clearing my doubt. Will using 1040 EZ (not 1040 NR EZ) be the best for me? I don't have any mortgage/extra income etc other than 1099-INT that too just for 18$. Thanks again for your help.

Unless you have some unusual work situation (like being paid on a Form 1099-MISC), you can probably file Form 1040EZ.
