Really depends on what their offence actual was and the conditions surrounding that.
Before jumping to conclusions you need information.
Once you know the facts then you be able to take the appropriate action.

I will agree, if he is a sex offender because he was 18 and was dating and having sex with 16 year old, ( happens every day) that is one issue, if he was urinating behind a building and a police officer saw him, that is another issue, but if he molested small children, that is another.

If the children are at risk, you go to court and ask for a change in custody due to the risk for their safety

More and more areas assign levels (1,2,3) to sex offenders. Level 1 is the least risky, and the most common. So I agree, find out.

Be very, very cautious. Childhood sexual assault is a very real underappreciated issue, which can cause tremendous damage emotionally.
If it was my kid, I'd never leave them with anybody I didn't trust implicitly.

Find out what level he is designated and then if he is dangerous and not permitted to be around children you can retain an attorney to have a judge bar him from being around the kids or you could call and report his activity to the sherrif's department as a sex offender who is not permitted to be around children. They will take the appropriate action if that is the case.

    Hello, hello:

I don't know where you live. But, where I live, child molestation isn't under appreciated at all. In fact, people are obsessed with it. That's why there ARE sex offender registry's.
