I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism (with TSH over 9). I have also had psoriasis for many years (which is getting worse). I am wondering how many people have been treated successfully for hypothyroidism and also seen their psoriasis go away? I am hopeful!

I never find articles associate the two problems together.Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease due to abnormal growth rate of some skin cell.the etiology is not very clear could due to many cause but not to my knowledge relate to thyroid function.

No single paper had been published in famous medical journal mention that abnormal thyroid function are direct cause of psoriass.Many years ago few researcher report that increase T3 T4 could increase growth rate of skin cell but at the same time,conflict report that some patient with hypothyroidsm also suffer from psoriasis.As I say before that the cause of psoriasis is not very clear.Recently majority of researcher and clinician agree that psoriasis may be a autoimmune disease due to abnormal T cell activity which wrongfully to target the normal tissue;skin cell, instead to distroy the cell but trigger it to over grow.Support this saying also because many psoriasis patient also suffer from rhumatoid arthritis which belong to autoimmune disease.Majority psoriasis patient has normal thyroid function.

The vast majority of "us" on AMHD do not have access to "famous medical journals" and only know what our research shows.

I do believe what The Mayo Clinic says, however. They say it can happen.

Hi Techpoet,I hope my answer do not shadow your hope.Judy is right it will happen.My answer just base what I know.Medicine is never 100% black and white.Many thing is right now and few years later and found it is wrong.I hope you get much better or completely heal then will have very positive data for this illness.

I further looking in hypothyroidsm and psoriasis and find out that one type and most common type of hypothyroidsm;hishimoto thyroiditis with psoriasis happen in the same patient.Since hishimoto thyroiditis also know a autoimmune disease and hypothyroidsm develop later then the psoriasis.It support that this two disease may due to same etiology and is not the consquen of each other.
