I recently began taking birth control (Microestrin 1.5/30) and on the seventh day I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. Both of us have tested negative for STDs, however were my 7 days of consecutive medication enough to prevent a pregnancy or should I be worried?

You should be worried, Most birth control recommend 15 to 30 days ( most 30 days of use) before they become effective.

Also you do know that just one method of birth control is far from 100 percent effective. Even if you were on birth control and a condom there still is small chance of pregnancy.

I don't agree with this period, after all, a baby diabetes or high chances of infection.

First of all I am from the UK and we have different brands of oral contracpetive pills to the states. Is the microestrin a combined hormonal contraceptive? So by that I mean that there are two different types of hormones with in it, estrogen and progestin.

These are the normal instructions for starting a combined pill - from the family planning association...

If you start the pill on the first day of your period you will be protected from pregnancy immediately.

You can also start the pill up to, and including, the fifth day of your period and you will be protected from pregnancy immediately.

However, if you have a short menstrual cycle with your period coming every 23 days or less, starting the pill as late as the fifth day may not provide you with immediate contraceptive protection because you may ovulate early in your menstrual cycle. Talk to your doctor or nurse about this and whether you need to use additional contraception for the first seven days.

If you start the pill at any other time in your menstrual cycle you will need to use additional contraception, such as condoms, for the first seven days of pill taking.

As I am not familiar with the contraceptive brand I can't be 100% certain that the above advice is correct. Normally taking 7 days of the combined pill is enough to protect you. However I think you may be best speaking to a chemsit for advice on if you were protected or not
