I had a 4 ton grandaire package unit. It did not have freon in it. Should had came from factory with freon. Any way the installer filled with freon with out doing a vacuum. If the unit was sealed should he still have done a vacuum? Should I be worried about this since it a package unit that goes on a moble home? Thanks in advance David

It does not matter if the unit was vacuumed out or not because if the unit does not work - you call the installer back and have him correct his mistake for free.

But if he did not do a vacuum it will take a while before damage is done an then you got to pay the labor still.Correct or not

May I ask why are you asking this question in the first place? Is it because you feel the installation was done incorrectly? Did you call the factory and ask them about the freon being in the unit or not when shipped? What you should be concerned about is if the unit is properly filled and tested for leaks. I worked for a manufactured home dealer and we subbed out the a/c installations to licensed contractors. Who installed your unit? A licensed contractor. Am not aware of units being shipped without the freon in them.

I would say that perhaps you were not clear on what was happening, first if the unit had been sent without any, it would have still be sealed and be read to accept freon.

But most likely it will be that it had a charge, but the installer checks the charge and adds freon to put it at the right level.

But a new unit would come with a warranty ? You should have been informed of that

Ok.Installer try to run unit after install.The label said factory charged.The unit would not run.He check an it had no freon.He started filling then unit kicked on.He did not check for leak or vacucum.Yes it has a warranty but in a year when compresser goes out you still have a labor cost.That is why I am asking this question.If it say factory charge what is the chance that it never got charged at factory?

I can't believe an a/c factory would not have put freon in a sealed unit. Did you contact the factory yet and ask them about this unit not having freon in it from the factory. I would say the chances of that happening would be very slim. Maybe the installer didn't know what he was doing. Were you there and watched him install unit or just heard his version of the installation problem? And in a year even with no freon your compressor won't just go out. The unit would not come on keeping the compressor from burning out. Please call the factory as any 4 ton unit would be thoroughly tested before it left their facility.

That would be nice if it work like that but in the real world in a year or when ever it happen to break.The not vacuum will be for got about in the installer eyes.Not talking about all installer.But the one I got did not even wrap the flex duct right still got insulation showing on return an supply duct.he also put the slab 4 inches short of covering the hole in the skirting so animals can get thrue it.Pretty shabby hun

Yes I was standing there when he was adding freon then the compresor kicked on.Going to call factory Monday.

The skirting hole can be easily remedied by buying a new skirting panel and custom fitting it. They sell single skirting panels at Lowe's for around $10 each.
