Why aren't insects shown at the zoo?
They take up less space, are very diversified.
I don't know about others but I would go to see these creatures.

I found a referance to a zoo for insects while looking for a description of something a co-worker and I had seen. I was searching ENTOMOLOGY and the referance was under a university, Iowa, I think... but I will not pormise. They do exist, but they are very rare.

    Hi Starman,

I think it has to do with the fact that people would have to crowd around the insect enclosure to see a smaller creature. Whereas you can see larger animals from a distance, and while you are approaching.

Also, people in general do not perceive the subtleties of insect behavior. They don't really do much (or so people think). Right or wrong, larger animals tend to be more relateable to more people.

    Hope that helps,

Actually, there is a small exhibit in the Fort Worth Zoo with quit a few beetles, spiders, and others (though they are mostly larger types of insects). It is definitely not too large, but I do enjoy going through it when I visit. I have not been to any other zoos that have had anything similar. Good observation on the lack of insects in zoos though.

Another thing would have to be the amount of phobia's many people face towards insects. I would go see an exhibit like that, but I do know a couple of people who would really be disgusted.
