My ex boyfriend is on probation for unlawful use of a firearm and received 5 years probation.His case is out of Lafayette county Missouri.why can't I locate him on case net? I have tried modoc.gov also and nothing. Where can I find the information on him that should be public record

Public record and internet records are two separate things. A public record is one where the public is entitled to have access to view the record. HOW the governmental agency makes those records accessible is up to them. Not everything is on the Net. You need to check with the clerk of the court to find out the procedure for obtaining those records and whether they are available online.

Some counties are not online with court dockets available for look up due to budgetary reasons. A larger county usually has this service available to the public. My current county in Ohio has this kind of access but the next county down which is not as heavily populated does not. And using the online services does not always guarantee you access to the records if the Clerk of Court never placed them on the net in the first place.

If you can, go to that County's courthouse and look at the file yourself. Or if that is not possible you MAY call up the Clerk of Courts Criminal Division and ask the Clerk to READ you pertinent parts of the file that you wish to know such as his final sentencing paperwork. This is their job. I've had Clerks read me pertinent parts of criminal files over the phone before. And if you need a paper copy of what was read to you they usually charge 25 cents a page and postage on top of that. You send them the money order or check and return envelope and they will send you copies from the court file. I have done this many times with out of state criminal files and divorce files. The clerks are happy to help you.

Many areas do not have or post their records online. In many areas you will have to do the research in person, or hire a local paralegal to do the research for you
